The Jean Davis Gallery

A collection of works curated to celebrate the life and paintings of Jean Davis

Image of Jean Davis

Jean Davis was a traveler and a lifelong student of music, history, literature, and art. The series of works on display here reflect the principal themes that interested her during her lifetime of painting. The majority are in family collections. A few on this website are in private collections. Rich with symbols and repeated motifs, her abstract paintings are meditations on place and memory. Her family portraits and figure work are distinctive and personal.

Ms. Davis received her BA in Visual Art Education from the University of Kansas. While in Kansas City, she owned and operated Studio II, a teaching school and art gallery. As a resident of Morehead City, North Carolina, she was an active board member of the Carolina Artists Studio and Gallery, which she helped found with four other artists. She taught art throughout her life, in Overland Park, Kansas, in Bangkok, Thailand, and at various venues in Carteret County, North Carolina. She was also deeply committed to her work with Very Special Arts and L’Arches Catholic Foundation as teacher and art therapist.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes. - Marcel Proust
